Clone 777, Pinot Noir, Pulborough, 2023

£36.00

The fruit for Clone 777 is sourced from Pulborough in West Sussex, at 80m on free-draining greensand soils. The carefully managed vineyard produces small, tightly packed clusters characteristic of Clone 777, leading to wines with intense red fruit aromas, vibrant acidity, and structured tannins. The cool climate and elevation promote balance and finesse, enhancing flavours of red cherry, raspberry, and subtle floral and spice notes.

Winemaking: Hand-harvested and carefully sorted, the grapes undergo spontaneous fermentation. A portion of oven-ripened stems is included in the ferment, contributing additional aromatic complexity and a fine tannin structure. Regular pump-overs during fermentation ensure gentle extraction of colour and tannins. 50% of the wine is aged for 6 months in a mix of new and old Burgundian oak barrels, while the remainder is matured in stainless steel to retain vibrant fruit expression.
